Parents and the School

Reporting to Parents

Colwill School Massey has a policy of welcoming parent interviews at mutually convenient times throughout the year. Teachers also undertake to contact parents whenever they have a celebration or concern regarding a child’s progress or behaviour. Parent interviews are in the middle of the year and at the end of the year. These are in the form of a traidic discussion led by your child. You will receive your child’s school report at these formal interviews.

Keeping in touch with our School Community is important to us. A weekly newsletter is sent home on Thursday with the eldest or only child in the family. The newsletter includes information about the school such as what is going to happen in the following weeks; reports on events; student’s work and community notices and services.

Please check your child’s bag for the newsletter and other notices. Whanau, teachers and children communicate through regular home notes.

The weekly newsletter is also published on the school website* ( and parts are on our facebook page, often more photos posted there too.

*Look for NEWSLETTERS section on the left hand side of the homepage.

You may wish to communicate with members of the staff through emails – email addresses are in the About Us > Staff Directory section of this site.

We have a Facebook page – like us at ‘Colwill School Massey’ and there is also news on the ‘Colwill Community Hub’ page.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)

Colwill School Massey has been a Behaviour For Learning (PB4L) school since 2010.

PB4L School-Wide looks at behaviour and learning from a whole-of-school as well as an individual child perspective.

The Positive Behaviour for Learning School-Wide framework, otherwise known as PB4L School-Wide, is helping New Zealand schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life. The framework can be tailored to your school’s own environment and cultural needs.

It’s not about changing the students; it’s about changing the environment, systems and practices you have in place to support them to make positive behaviour choices.

PB4L School-Wide is based on the Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework developed at the University of Oregon in the 1990s. PBIS is now in thousands of schools across the US and there are over 700 School-Wide schools in New Zealand.

Our reward systems are based around our three respect values

“Be Kind, Be Caring, Be Careful”. These values are taught in the classroom and modelled by school leaders and staff.

We pride ourselves on the fact we are currently sitting on Tier 2 of the 3 Tier programme.
